Supporting Organizations We are very grateful to those individuals and organisations who are supporting the work of CCH. The following organizations are CCH's primary donors in 2008 and 2009: JHP--Japan Team of Young Human Power (Japan) Ms. Osanai Mieko, President of the non-profit Japan Team of Young Human Power (JHP), met Mr. Mech Sokha by chance in Cambodia. Being moved by the plight of children in this war-ravaged country, Ms. Osanai Mieko agreed to offer the financial support of JHP to help establish Center for Children's Happiness (CCH), with Sokha as a co-founder and managing director. CCH was established as a non-profit organization in April, 2002. JHP covered the construction costs of building the CCH 1 & 2 residential facilities, and has recently successfully concluded its commitment to support CCH during its first six years of operation. Going forward, JHP continues to provide educational and operational support on a year by year basis. Cambodia's Children (UK) (formerly Cambodia's Dump Children) In 2005, an second residential care facility known as CDCC was established in Phnom Penh, under the direction and management of Mech Sokha and the Center for Children's Happiness organization. This facility, which houses over 80 children, has been named in honor of Cambodia's Dump Children Committee of the United Kingdom, which was largely responsible for raising the funds necessary to open the CDCC facility. The CDCC organization in the United Kingdom (now called "Cambodia's Children") was founded to support the children who live and work on the garbage dump, and carries out ongoing fund raising to support children at the CDCC facility. Eli Svanhild Riska Thorsen Group (Norway) Since 2007, Ms. Eli Svanhild Riska Thorsen of Norway has organized a group of very generous donors to help CCH in many ways. Some of the projects done to date include: Funds to complete the 4th floor dormitory rooms at CDCC, beds at CDCC, generous contributions to CCH General Operating expenses, a grant to complete the 4th floor classrooms at CCH 1, child sponsorship, and most recently, large grants for construction of a new kitchen and dining facility at CCH 1, and to purchase land which will be the future site of a new CCH 3 residential facility. Friends of Center for Children's Happiness (USA) (www.friendsofcch.org) was founded by Elia and Halimah Van Tuyl in 2006, with the purpose of raising funds for all of CCH's efforts. Friends of CCH has helped fund the CCH Road Show and Library, part of the 4 story multi-purpose building at CCH 1, General Operating expenses, purchase of land for the future CCH 3 and Youth House, construction of the new Youth House, funds for the new CCH International School, and numerous other efforts. To contact Friends of CCH, email: friendsofcch@gmail.com. Halimah is an elementary school teacher, who has helped establish the Road Show and CCH libraries. Elia is a retired businessman who now works full time for CCH as a fund raiser and CCH Donor Liaison, and oversees accounting at the orphanage. VZW de Stortkinderen / CCH Friends Belgium (www.stortkinderen.be) is a dedicated fund raising organization located in Flanders, Belgium. The name Stortkinderen ( = Garbage Dump Kids ) refers to the garbage dump of Steung Meanchy as well to the provincial garbage dump in the village of Lendelede, Belgium. The support of the Belgian friends of CCH started in 2004 with the co-production of the DVD "Cambodian Dump Children." Since then, they have put on many events, including dances, cookouts, a yearly Trappist Sale around Christmas and presentations to corporate donors. De Stortkinderen provided a significant funding for the new CCH business training building, as well as ongoing sponsorship support for CCH (individual child sponsorship programs, purchases of bikes and computers, etc.). Stortkinderen is now providing significant support to the newly developing CCH Youth House program. Canodia (Canadians Helping Cambodia's Youth) (http://canodia.com) was founded in November, 2007 by Mr. Gerry Valois of Winnipeg, Canada. Canodia's projects serve to help the poor, homeless and orphaned children of Cambodia, and assists children that are most at risk for exploitation and abuse. Canodia also supports organizations that can deliver sustainable results and change the lives of children and youth to empower hem for a brighter future. "Hilfe für Kinder in Phnom Penh e.V." (Help for Children in Phnom Penh) (http://www.kambodscha-kinderhil fe.de) was founded by Dr.Martin Hannemann from Germany in 2007 after a visit to Center for Children’s Happiness in 2006. The organization’s sole focus is to raise money for CCH, preferring to support children on a long time basis. By the end of 2007 8 children have already been pledged ongoing support by Help for Children in Phnom Penh, and additional one time donations have been received from individuals and companies. A German organisation has been necessary to satisfy German tax laws. One goal of Help for Children in Phnom Penh is to transfer 100% of all donations to CCH, so that the children will benefit to the maximum. Dr.Hannemann speaks publicly within Germany about CCH and has published his work on the organization's website, where one may read the organizational charter and learn how to apply for a membership. Though it is still a small organisation, it is growing and was very successful in its first year. 100 Friends Project (USA) (www.100friendsproject.org) was started by Marc Gold in 1989 as small project with a simple idea: Every year several thousand people contribute to the project and Marc takes the money to Third World Countries and looks for the neediest people he can find. He then puts the money to work in the most compassionate, appropriate, culturally compatible, constructive and practical manner possible. Marc pays for his own travel expenses. Since the project began, Marc has completed ten humanitarian missions and dispensed over $100,000 directly into the hands of thousands of needy people all over the world. Marc tries to find people who are not being assisted by anyone else and makes sure that the person needing the help really receives it. The funds have gone to support women's projects, street children, hospitals, tsunami survivors, AIDS and tuberculosis victims, and the elderly, among others. 100 Freinds Project provides ongoing sponsorship for 8 children at CCH, in addition to providing support for special projects and events. Solna Haga Rotary of Sweden,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (http://www.rotary.se/2350) St. John's Northwest Rotary Canada....... (http://www.northwestrotary.org) Solna Haga and St. John's Rotary Clubs have teamed up with CCH since 2007 to provide invaluable support to CCH for computer training programs and construction of classrooms at the CCH 1 facility. In 2010, the two Rotary Clubs have funded a computer training and outreach program administered by CCH which trains impoverished children and young adults computer skills in Phnom Penh and surrounding poor villages of Andong and Trapaing Anh Chanh. This grant includes purchase of computers and electrical generators, and intensive training in basic computer skills for as many as 70 participants. The program allows for the community connections at CCH to extend computer skills outward into the surrounding community. International School of Milan (Italy) (Website HERE) International School of Milan, through its Monza Section, has raised funds to support many ongoing CCH activities, including food and clothing for the children, childcare and staff salaries, healthcare expenses, plus school supplies and clothing, and has been a partner, along with many other donors, in making the new CCH International School a reality as of Fall of 2009. Smile Cambodia - Hilfe fuer Kambodscha e.V. ( Germany)................. (www.Smile-Cambodia.de) After volunteering at CCH, Sebastian Wieland founded Smile Cambodia - Hilfe für Kambodscha e.V. in 2009. In addition, Happy Hearts Fund has provided CCH with recent, much needed funding to help with General Operating Costs, and has been a partner in helping CCH acquire land to build the future CCH 3 facility. CCH has developed a cooperative relationship with UWCSEA---United World College Southeast Asia (Singapore) www.uwcsea.uwc.org, which began sending volunteers to CCH in 2005. One of CCH's students has a full scholarship to attend UWCSEA, and is currently in Grade 12 there, and will attend university in the United States beginning in fall of 2009. Two other CCH students are currently in Grade 8 at the UWC program in Singapore on full scholarship, and a fourth attends grade 11 in British Columbia, Canada. Individual Sponsors and Volunteers CCH is also grateful to the many organizations, individual sponsors and volunteers who have contributed financially or volunteered their time and energy to enrich the lives of our children and help CCH to continue to grow and develop as a care-provider and educational institution for some of Cambodia's most vulnerable children.
